The Questions in Your Head Right Now.

Cost and terms
£7.50 per hour for all year groups, Year 3 through Year 6. Other tutoring centres in Reading typically charge £15 to £30 an hour. We keep our price low because we believe every child deserves access to quality education, not just families who can afford a premium rate. Low cost does not mean low quality, our results are the proof. We teach because we care, the £7.50 just covers our costs.
No. We don't have contracts. You pay at the end of each month, only for the sessions your child attended. If your child can't attend a session and you let us know in advance, there's no charge. You can stop at any time, there's no penalty, no notice period, and no hidden fees.
We occasionally offer scholarship places to children who show genuine potential and commitment over time, and whose families face real financial hardship. These places are never applied for, we raise them ourselves, after we've had time to properly assess the child and the family's circumstances, because a hasty decision at a first meeting wouldn't serve anyone well. All arrangements are completely confidential. If you have financial concerns, please don't let that stop you from booking a free assessment, come and meet us, and if a scholarship becomes appropriate, we'll raise it with you ourselves.
Timing and exams
Boys sit the Reading Boys entrance exam in mid-July, at the end of Year 5, before the summer holidays, earlier than many parents expect. A boy who starts Year 5 in September has less than one school year to prepare, which is why we recommend starting in Year 3 or Year 4. Girls sit the Kendrick School GL Assessment in mid-September, at the start of Year 6. This gives girls who start in Year 3 about three years to prepare. Year 4 is the latest we recommend starting.
No, not for either exam. For Reading Boys, the exam covers 12 subjects, and building real knowledge across all of them takes two to three years. For Kendrick, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning aren't taught in school and must be learned from scratch, which takes years of consistent, structured practice. Children who start in Year 3 or Year 4 arrive at the exam feeling calm and genuinely prepared. Children who start late feel rushed and under pressure. We always want children to have the best possible experience.
Reading Girls' School offers 42 selective-stream places for academically able girls, through the CEM Select exam. It's state funded, free, and has no catchment area, and many families preparing for Kendrick register here too as a second option. It isn't Kendrick, since the selective stream sits inside a larger, mixed intake, so more responsibility falls on parents to stay involved. Selective-stream students who do well at GCSE have gone on to join Kendrick's Sixth Form.

What happens in sessions
The free assessment is a gentle 90-minute English and Maths check. We only test school-taught subjects, we do not assess Verbal or Non-Verbal Reasoning at this stage, as these aren't taught in school and it wouldn't be a fair starting point. After the assessment, we share full written feedback with you and a personal learning plan for your child. You continue only if you're completely happy, there's no obligation.
Yes. Every child receives a homework booklet after each session, covering exactly what we taught that week. It's a direct extension of the lesson, and you don't need to be a subject expert to check it, we make it easy for every parent, whatever their own background. This is the moment the learning actually happens. Checking their answers together each week, correcting mistakes early, and telling us what they found hard means we never leave a gap behind, we go back over it in class. Children whose parents check the homework and tell us where they struggled make significantly faster progress than those who work alone.
We teach everything face to face, on paper, marked in pen. It keeps a child's attention on the learning, and we've found it helps what they learn actually stick.
